Intertrochanteric Osteotomy (ITO)

A technique used to correct a number of different issues in the femur, such as, malrotation, leg length inequalities, varus and valgus deformities, and flexion and extension abnormalities, and combinations of these. Blade plate fixation is a strategy of choice, but IM nails can be used for simple derotation alone. Intertrochanteric osteotomy is also eligible for the 'no narcotic', rapid rehab, out-patient protocol.
